What is the Tahoe Jewish Community (TJC)?
The TJC serves its member congregations (including the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation and Temple Bat Yam in South Lake Tahoe) by providing clergy support and holiday observances at our synagogue under the guidance and approval of the Board. The TJC is the larger, encompassing regional organization that serves smaller, local congregations.
Events like Passover Seder and the Hannukah Celebration are co-sponsored by the NTHC and the TJC.
TJC Mission Statement
The mission of our Tahoe Jewish Community is to serve our member organizations, to strengthen Jewish life and identity in the Greater Sierra region, to create Jewish immersive experiences, and to serve as a resource to similarly situated Jewish organizations and groups.
TJC Vision
Rooted in our Gem of Creation, we, the Tahoe Jewish Community, cultivate a vibrant voice for Mountain Judaism, based in our Center for Jewish Life in the Northern Sierra Nevada.
The Tahoe Jewish Community (TJC) aspires to reach Jews, Jewishly adjacent individuals, and groups who love Lake Tahoe and the Greater Sierra. Through investing in co-creation, collaboration, immersive experiences, and empowerment of both Jewish individuals and organizations, the TJC develops Mountain Judaism, a lens of wrestling with our tradition, culture, and heritage in a new-yet-old meaningful way, connected to nature and the natural world.
